Teaching children about Jesus does not have to be complicated. Children learn through simple words, daily moments, stories, songs, questions, and the way they see faith lived at home.Deuteronomy 6:6–7
The goal is not only for children to know Bible stories, but for them to know who Jesus is: loving, kind, Holy, powerful, forgiving, and always near.Matthew 28:20
1. Start with Jesus' love
Before children understand many Bible lessons, they can understand this truth: Jesus loves me.John 3:16
Let your child hear this often. Say it during normal moments, not only during Bible time. When they are happy, remind them. When they make mistakes, remind them. When they feel afraid, remind them.
2. Keep the message simple
Children do not need long explanations. Use short and clear sentences like:
- Jesus cares about you.
- Jesus hears you when you pray.
- Jesus wants us to love others.
- Jesus forgives us when we are sorry.
Simple truths can stay in a child's heart for a long time.2 Timothy 3:15
3. Use Bible stories to show who Jesus is
When reading Bible stories, do not only focus on what happened. Also talk about what the story shows about Jesus.
- Jesus calmed the storm — Jesus is powerful, and we can trust Him when we are afraid.Mark 4:35–41
- Jesus welcomed the children — children are important to Jesus.Mark 10:13–16
- Jesus fed the crowd — Jesus cares about people's needs.John 6:1–14
- Jesus forgave — Jesus is full of mercy.Luke 7:47–50
4. Connect Jesus to everyday life
- At bedtime, talk about trusting Jesus.Psalm 4:8
- During conflict, talk about forgiveness.Ephesians 4:32
- When your child is worried, talk about prayer.Philippians 4:6–7
- When your family is thankful, talk about praising God.1 Thessalonians 5:18

Small everyday moments can become faith moments.
5. Let questions be welcome
Children may ask simple, funny, or even difficult questions about God, Jesus, heaven, prayer, or the Bible. That is not a bad thing. Questions can open the door for honest faith conversations.
When you do not know the answer, it is okay to say:
That is a good question. Let's think about it together and ask God for wisdom.James 1:5
6. Make Jesus personal, not distant
Children should not feel that Jesus is only someone they hear about in church. They can learn that Jesus is near, loving, and interested in their lives.Matthew 28:20
Teach them that they can talk to Him, thank Him, worship Him, and trust Him every day.Hebrews 4:16
